Hello I'm new to this list, normally inhabiting the Wiltshire one. I wonder if SKS has the baptismal records for Cheshunt and could please do a look up for me. I'm looking for Emily Adria Griffiths or Adrin Emily Griffiths who, according to the censuses was born in Cheshunt c 1822. She married Robert Bush in Tasmania. I'm waiting for her marriage certificate from Tasmania. Their index has her as Adrin Emily Griffiths but the censuses have her as Emily Adria (Bush). I've also seen her as Emily Adrin (Bush). On family papers her father was referred to as Colonel Griffiths; her mother was Elizabeth Lucas. Elizabeth was the daughter of Henry Lucas and Charlotte Buckworth-Herne. I know quite a bit about the Buckworth-Herne family but nothing about Henry Lucas or Colonel Griffiths. So far I have nothing other than the census to locate her in Cheshunt as place of birth. Her son, John Ernest Bush married Mabel Katherine Beverley and settled in Berkhamstead. If anyone else is researching any of these families, I'd be interested to hear from them. Susan
Hi, IGI has an entry for Emily Grffiths, chr 19 Sept 1821 at Cheshunt, dau of Edwin Griffiths and Eliza Ann . She has a sister Edwina Eliza Ann chr 1819 also Cheshunt . Edwin and Eliza Ann Lucas are married in 1816 at St Paul`s Covent Garden, Westminster . The 1841 census for Cheshunt shows an Edwin Griffiths, 40, Army , No ( not born in county ) with a live in staff of four women and one man servant . No sign of Elizabeth Ann his wife . His burial is recorded in All Souls , Kensal Green , and he is Lt Col Edwin Griffiths, of 6 Nottingham Place, St Marylebone, and he was buried 11July 1867 aged 75. I cannot find him in the 1851 or in the 1861 census . A list of the Officers of the Army etc ( a google books search) shows 96th regt Paymaster, Edwin Griffiths, from 11Jan 1833 from Lt 12 Nov 1813 . His earlier career seems to have started with the Royal Aritllery Drivers , on to 2nd Veteran Battalion , to the 48th regt and then to the 96th , so I would guess he is not wealthy and can only gain promotion by merit rather than purchase . However in the I of W records via A2A, there is a reconveyance of annuity, 2 Sept 1818 , which is for £100 secured on rectories of Gatcombe and St Lawrence, original grant dated 1812 , and assignment to Elizabeth Ann Lucas, 6 Aug 1814 : " Consid: £655 ." and agreed presumably between Edwin Griffiths, of Clifford Place, Herefordshire , Lt in Royal Artillery Drivers and Elizabeth Ann his wife nee Lucas , and Thomas Foster of Grays Inn, the Rev Henry Worsley of Gatcombe I W , and the Rev Henry Worsley , junr of Godshill, I W . I would guess this is at the time of their marriage . Finally there is a Clifford parish in Herefordshire , but whether that is the family home of Edwin Griffiths , I can`t discover . The annuity would seem to indicate that Elizabeh Ann was possibly born in I of Wight . life is hard . soften it with a cat \\\=^..^=/// ----- Original Message ----- From: "Susan Morris" <susan.fh@cosmic-colour.co.uk> To: <eng-hertfordshire@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, September 09, 2010 1:57 AM Subject: [HRT] Baptismal look up please, plus researching Bush, Griffiths, Lucas, Buckworth-Herne, Beverley. > Hello > > I'm new to this list, normally inhabiting the Wiltshire one. > > I wonder if SKS has the baptismal records for Cheshunt and could please > do a look up for me. > > I'm looking for Emily Adria Griffiths or Adrin Emily Griffiths who, > according to the censuses was born in Cheshunt c 1822. > > She married Robert Bush in Tasmania.
