Hi Glyn Names were spelt differently according to location, occupation (degree of literacy?) and the "ear" of the person hearing the information for example the Minister or Parish Clerk or official at the Reg office. Thus when posting a request give as much detail as possible - people on lists are very happy to help but your posted info is far too vague and doesn't match with sites I have checked. Also consider the social times of the dates you have listed - WW1 for a marriage and post war for a death? Has 57 been mistransribed ? Maybe 37? The answer is often in the detaiil of certs - the witnesses or the informant or the vilage orstreet address etc. Happy hunting Marlene ----- Original Message ----- From: "G Morris" <gr.morris@btinternet.com> To: <eng-hertfordshire@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, February 03, 2010 1:55 AM Subject: Re: [HRT] James JOHNSTON > Hello Elizabeth, > > I believe the surnames are interchangeable.
