Hello List, I'm posting to this list because, 'supposedly' my husband's Ashby line came from Hertfordshire.. I maintain the ASHBY-L (list) at rootsweb and we have a few folks who have done the DNA test but, don't believe we have anyone from the UK that has tested. The first known/proven Ashby ancestor in the U.S. (for many of us) is the Thomas Ashby (1680-1752) in VA who may have been born in England. he may have been from Ashby de la Zouche and there is a John Ashby whose immigration from the U.K. was to South Carolina. He married a Thorowgood. There is a connection to a Quenby estate, because the John named his property in SC, Quenby. But, many people mistakenly believe that he is the father of Thomas.. He is NOT !. There were Thorowgood/Thorogood men in VA, too. He left family in SC but he and his wife, Elizabeth returned to England. So, here I am asking if any of you on the list can help? We especially need a male Ashby, who has taken the DNA test or would be willing to take it for at least the 37 marker..(FamilyTreeDNA site has a sale going on, now). Or, if any Ashby has some documentation that can tie us together, that would be really appreciated!! Thanks so much for any help. Sue Ashby
