I found on the Rootsweb surname list one Patricia Jobling who was researching the KITE family name in Devon and also with connections, it seems to Welwyn in Hertfordshire. Unfortunately her email bounced. Anyway, rather than re-type my interests I will give you the info that I attempted to send to Patricia (hopefully she is still on the list with another ISP?) Hello Patricia Greetings from Australia, lost in the World Cup to Germany! Ha! Anyway, I see an amazing coincidence in your Rootsweb entry in that you have Welwyn as your submitter's name. You may or may not be able to help me. I have only just received the Will of one of my Bennetts - Alfred John, second cousin twice removed 1861-1943. Various art experts in the UK seem to have him listed as the artist who created various watercolour/paint/etchings etc. in London late 1800s-early 1900s and have him dying around 1921. I think I have now proven that this is not so as my Alfred John was a distillery traveller in his later days, though fits with their earlier ideas of him being a jeweller. Anyway, I digress. The Will is executed by his two cousins George William Bennett b. 1885 and George's brother Thomas Harold Bennett b. 1887 and one Violet Irene Oakman who is a relative to Alfred's second wife. Last known address is "The Orchard" Sandal Road, New Maldon, Surrey. The Will, thank goodness, also mentions George William's daughter Joyce and Thomas Harold's daughter Elizabeth. I am fairly sure that I have found the two marriages of both George and Thomas. You will be interested in the marriage (according to FreeBmd) of George W Bennett to Gladys A. Kite, Sept Qtr 1919 3a 2121 Hatfield. My George's known address in 1943 is 94 Cassiobury Drive, Hatfield, Hertfordshire. Glady's A. Kite certainly appears to be (according to census data) the daughter of John Alfred Kite, medical practitioner of High Street, Welwyn, Hertfordshire. (FreeBMD Births Mar Qtr 1842 Kite John Alfred, Dover 5 115). Fascinating! (FreeBmd Dec Qtr 1893, Hatfield - Kite, Gladys Ada). Then I find the birth of Joyce obviously the same as mentioned in the Will - Bennett Joyce A, mother Kite, Sep Qtr 1929 Uxbridge 3a 61. Two other children with the same details are Bennett Alfred J (probably Alfred John) Mar Qtr 1925 Uxbridge 3a 65 and Bennett Alan, Mar Qtr 1926 Uxbridge 3a 82. Two others who probably fit in (as George was from Fulham) are Bennett Phyllis M sep Qtr 1923 Frome 5c 595 and Bennett Richard G (undoubtedly George) Mar Qtr 1924 Fulham 1a 505. I think I am going to have to apply for the marriage certificates of both George and Thomas to prove all of this out, but in the meantime if you have any info which you consider fits I certainly would be very happy to receive it. On the Kite side living with John Alfred Kite in 1901 at Welwyn was Lucy S (?) Kite, mother-in-law, widow 72, born Cheshire, Macclesfield. The 1891 shows her at Welwyn Hill, Welwyn as wife to William H Kite, Clerk to Guardians of the Workhouse and Lucy is the Matron.
