A police constable, named GORTON, stationed at Aldbury, Herts, was found drowned in the canal there today. He fell in the water whilst endeavouring to rescue his dog from drowning. NOT connected to our research, but, from FreeBMD, this would appear to be Charles GORTON aged 31. His death was registered at Berkhampstead Mar Qtr 1899 3a 428.
