    3. Hello Having just joined the list, I would be most grateful if some of the members could assist me with a Hertfordshire query .. a county that I have discovered a link to. My interest is in the HIBBLE brothers, Charles, Alfred & Walter HIBBLE who were born in the 1820's and early 1830's in Middlesex, England. I was quite surprised to find the trio in the 1841 census in Rickmansworth, and from looking at the other people on the census page, it would appear that the boys were at boarding school. NB. The Arthur that is listed is an error and the census should have recorded the correct name of Alfred. The page on which they appear just says town, and the prior page has some of the residents in "Basing house in the town". Is this enough information to determine which school the boys attended? Any information on the school would be of most interest. School records would be incredible!!!!!! There is no known link to this area. Their father, Charles HIBBLE, was for a time, a Licensed Victualler in the Covent Gardens area of Middlesex. Thanks Beth New Zealand

    3. Basing House. A large timber framed and rendered house built in the 17th century. The roof is tiled. In circa 1740 the front range was added and again in about 1850 to 1860 the house was remodelled. It was extended in red brick in circa 1885 and again in the early 20th century. The extensions are covered by slate. The two storey house has an attic storey and features two parallel five bay ranges and a central entrance. The 17th century remains of the house are only visible at the rear in form of exposed framing with brick nogging. From 1672 until 1677 Basing House was the home of William Penn, the founder of Pennsylvania. Basing House became a school in 1839 and in 1870 the house of Dr Henderson. From 1930 until the early 1990s it housed council offices and in 1992 it became the home of the Three Rivers Museum. One of several hits on a simple Google search. 3. http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/index/ENG-HERTFORDSHIRE If you go to this page, click on search and type in BASING you will find we have discussed the school before in relation to its headmaster and that Pigot's Directory indicates it was a boarding school.
