    2. Thank you David, interesting. I visited Aldbury yesterday, what a lovely village. I was very pleased to find the church open, but alas didn't find any Bachelor/Batchelors in the graveyard. Nan

    3. Not sure how this thread began but notice a Henry Bachelor from Little Gaddesden served in the Coldstream Guards 1859-62 and his records recently were posted on findmypast (free access during England's WC games). 3. Yet a Benjamin Batchelor is known to have been buried at Aldbury aged 38 on 21 July 1847 (National Burial Index is also free on Findmypast during World Cup matches). Did you check the memorial inscriptions for Aldbury published by Herts FHS? These lists sometimes include graves earlier recorded but since lost. The booklet can be ordered at Genfair (link on FFHS site). It is not far to Little Gaddesdon and the Henry Bachelor who served in the Guards is found there (spelling Batchelor) in census returns up to 1911. Very likely the same body as his destination on discharge was Bucks and he married a girl from that county according to the census. Happy hunting, Anthony. ________________________________________ From: eng-hertfordshire-bounces@rootsweb.com [eng-hertfordshire-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Nancat3@aol.com [Nancat3@aol.com] Sent: 13 June 2010 12:26 To: eng-hertfordshire@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [HRT] Bachelor family in Aldbury Thank you David, interesting.
