Hi Linda, What dates are we talking about?? Looking on the HALS Online Database (www.hertsdirect.org/ufs/ufsmain?esessionid=16574285A656FAFF7E6F91FF93BC3384_1), there are LAMBKIN/LAMPKIN marriages on there from the late 1700's onwards but most of them seem to be centred around Standon. Do you have any census records? Ancestry hold Immigration records but without knowing the approximate dates you are interested in, it is difficult to help in any detail. HALS has a slightly different date for the first marriage (15 May 1823) so perhaps your date is for the Banns. For the earlier marriage their transcriptions are Aylen and Laurence. No doubt you have checked the 1841 and 1851 censuses showing Thomas as an inn keeper. The text of "Great Amwell Past and Present" on the internet records gravestones of earlier Aylins (including another John and Sarah). A2A lists three documents at HALS pertinent to the Aylins of Great Amwell. The informant may well have been the Master or Matron of the Union Workhouse. This was the case for one of my ancestors from the same period. If you can find a census entry for 1841 or 1851 (more likely) there is a chance you could confirm this. Otherwise there may be registers at HALS. Good morning, I have just received a birth certificate from GRO. for a birth 12 May 1838 in Ware.. The registration district at the top is given as Ware Union and the informant, 10 days later, is described as 'inmate' but is not the childs mother or father or to my knowledge related. Would this mean the child was born in Ware workhouse? Thanks for your time. Josi.
