Hi All, I forgot who did the original posting, I have Carrington in Enfield so this website below was quite helpful to me. There IS a .....FOUNTAIN.... connection.... the research based around 1861 and 1901 in Edmonton and Tottenham, ....and I believe he is researching those lines so he may be able to help. Sorry, but I can not remember the gentleman's name...this is his email address- research@carrington.f2s,com <research@carrington.f2s,com> Website:.... http://www.carrington.f2s.com/Photo/Family%20Photo.htm hope it helps, regards, Angela. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Donald Massey" <donaldmasseyuk@yahoo.com> To: <ENG-HERTFORDSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, March 23, 2005 6:41 AM Subject: Re: [Herts] FOUNTAIN surname > If you find an Ivinghoe (Bucks) connection, let me know! > > Donald Massey > > ----- Original Message ----- > > >I seem to recall some people on the list were researching the FOUNTAIN > > surname when I was subscribed some time ago. > > > > I am trying to track down my ggg grandmother Hannah Elizabeth FUSEDALE nee > > FOUNTAIN who died in 1833 aged 38. Hi Watford Central library holds all copies of the Watford Observer from its conception to date on fiche/film.... unfortunatly its not indexed, so it would mean trawling through the newspaper for a couple of weeks after the date of the event.... Alternatively, if on the death certificate there is shown a date of the inquest and who perfomred it then you could try writing to : Her Majestys Coroner for the district of West Hertfordshire Leahoe House County Hall Hertford SG13 8DH or you could ring them on 01992 556516/556517 I have found them to be very helpful and efficient in the past...and they may still hold the inquest records for this incident.... You might like to know that Westfield Avenue runs directly pararell to the Radlett Road, and the River Colne is situated in the playing fields across the Radlett Road from Westfield Avenue. both still exist today, so if you were to look at a map of Watford, then you will be able to see how close they are to each other... not far at all for a two year old to wander.... Hope that this helps.... Kind regards Tezz _________________________________________________________________ Use MSN Messenger to send music and pics to your friends http://www.msn.co.uk/messenger

Yo, Hugh, Thank you for the welcome message. This is my first posting to the list. I`m hoping that SKS can help me. I have the death certificate of Cynthia Ann Collins, aged two, daughter of John Anthony Collins, of 75, Westfield Ave., Watford, who drowned in the River Colne, Rudlett Rd., 13 th June, 1940. There would surely have been an inquest, and a report in the local newspaper. Can someone please point me in the right direction, as I am not of the area ? Best wishes, Ceri.
Thanks to all the help I've received from this list I've now made considerable progress with my RUDD family and I've managed to put together a tentative tree for John Bray RUDD'S family. As John is proving rather elusive in the 1851 census I don't at the moment have proof that he is part of the family. I wondered if anyone had access to the 1841 census for Sandon. If so I would be most grateful to have the details of the RUDD family who were probably living at Red Hill. Also I wondered if there are any marriage indexes for Hertfordshire so that I can find the marriage of William RUDD in about 1813. This is what the family looks like at the moment: William RUDD, born in about 1781 in Preston, Hertfordshire. He had the following children: 1. William RUDD, baptised on 16 October 1814 at Red Hill Independent, Sandon, Hertfordshire. In the 1871 census he was a wheelwright living at the Bucks Head Public House in Little Wymondley with his wife Elizabeth, 64, who was born in Reed, and his niece Emily, 13, who was born in Waltham Abbey. In 1881 his widowed daughter Sarah A WEST, 39, born in Little Wymondley was also living in the household together with a grandson Sarah E WEST, born 1871 in Stevenage. 2. Sarah RUDD, born about 1816 in Sandon. 3. Ann RUDD, baptised on 18 May 1818 at Red Hill Independent, Sandon. 4. Philip RUDD, baptised on 21 July 1822 at Red Hill Independent, Sandon. 5. Isaac RUDD, baptised on 21st July 1822 at Red Hill Independent, Sandon. In 1871 and 1881 he was an unmarried wheelwright living at the Public House, Red Hill, Sandon, with his unmarried sisters Sarah, Charlotte and Hephzibah. 6. Charlotte RUDD, born in 1824 in Sandon. 7. John Bray RUDD, born about 1826 in Sandon. He married Isabel Hunter in 1858 in Stepney, London. 8. Hephzibah RUDD, born about 1829 in Sandon. Best wishes Debbie Kennett

Some good news for you, Keith. I checked FreeBMD & found they don't yet have 100% cover for 1904 to 1906, so I checked 1837online for these years & found the following Emily CHARGE Dec 1905 Watford 3a 1365 I then checked for William Joseph SMITH, but couldn't find him in the same quarter. There was a William Henry SMITH married in Watford in the same quarter, but the reference was 3a 1346. Regards Geoff Morse

Hi Jane Although I actually live about 5 or 6 miles from Abbots, and have ancestors in St Lawrence's, I simply cannot find the time to get there, what with kids and work and all that! I can tell you however that John Dickinson had several paper mills around here. The one in Abbots Langley is called Nash Mills, and is still running today. I used to work at his first Mill at Croxley Green in the late 1970s, but that was demolished around 1981. His third Mill was (and still is) at Apsley near Hemel Hempstead. The first Mill (at Croxley) was built in 1801, and was so successful that the others were opened within a few years. The names of some of the paper they made were "Three Candles", "Basildon Bond". and "Croxley Script", and thes are still in shops around the world to this day. There would have been around 1,000 people working at the mill, with four shift managers each being in charge of about 200 men and women. If your ancestor was Shift manager at Nash Mills, he would have been very well known in the Village, and you may find him in local trade directories of the time. Anyway, when I finally get around to looking up my HOW ancestors in Abbots, I will remember your name, and try to find the memorial.
