Hello, I live in New Zealand and am having trouble finding a George BALDING born about 1855 Watford, I have searched the London area for 1861 and nothing to be found so I can only assume he was the one born in Watford which is the only one left, his father's name also George I have no idea of his mothers name Can anyone help me out. In appreciation Eileen NZ
Hello Eileen, I did a search on Ancestry 1871 for a George BALDING born Watford and could not find him. However, there is a George BALDWIN aged 15 born Watford who is an inmate scholar at King Edward School for Boys, Godalming, Surrey (RG10/815, folio 41, page 13). Could this be him?? Do you have any more info on George snr or any siblings of George jnr so that I could narrow down the search for George snr on the 1871? Hi Eileen, I took a look in the 1871 census for a George Balding born about 1855 in Watford; and came up with this a George Baldwin age 15 born Watford, Hertfordshire. He is listed as an inmate, but when you look at the census page itself it is King Edwards School for Boys. Reference: RG10/815 Folio 41 Page 13 County: Surrey Civil Parish: Godalming Ecclestiastical Parish: Witley All Saints Town: Wormley & Heath Enumeration District: 6 Could this be him? Hi Thelma: The first I heard of Sarah was in the 1881 census, from which I was able to search the IGI and find her marriage at Portsea. In 1851, William Robert WILLCOCKS was married to Elizabeth CHALKLEY, and is shown in the census in Portsea, with wife and her sister Mary. This marriage appears to have been childless, as the later censuses only show progeny from the second marriage. I have been unable to find Sarah GILES in Hampshire in 1851, but I suppose there is a possibility. In 1861 they would probably have been in the Hartings in Sussex, where Evelyn Jemima WILLCOCKS was born in the Sep Qtr of 1859. By 1862, they were in Shoreditch, London, where Robert WILLCOCKS was born . They were still in this general area in Kingsland, Middlesex in 1864, when William Charles WILLCOCKS was born, and finally, by 1868 they were in Colchester, Essex for the birth of Edward H. Willcocks. By 1881 Robert had fled the coop, but in 1891 he is back. A researcher in Essex was unable to find them there in 1871, and nobody has indexed 1861 for Sussex yet, so again no information was found. Having also found no birth records for Sarah, pre-registration, I don't know where in St. Albans she was born. There is a Giles family in St. Ippollitts, but a red herring as the father is not George, who was specifically named on her marriage register entry. She was not previously married. Brick walls are hard to destroy! Regards Martin Willcocks Taylorsville, UT, USA. ================= Thelma wrote: Hi Martin I have looked through part of the St.Albans area 1851 census but have only come up with two Giles families so far, each headed by a William and containing no Sarahs. I have found a photograph amongst my mother's possessions of Shirley Hart dated 1936. She would be about the same age as my brother now and he is 70. I would love to pass this photo onto Shirley herself, or her sister Jacqueline who was my age (59)or any member of the proven family. We all lived in Archers Way, Letchworth. If anyone knows the family and could pass on my contact details I would be extremely grateful. I have tried Friends Reunited but they have not posted any information. Hi Ray According to the 71 & 81 census, where I have just found him Thomas was born 1814 in Harpenden and Sarah was born 1812 St Stephens & St Albans?? whats that supposed to mean? They were living in Abbots Langley in both and it looks like Thomas put his daughter Sarah down as living there even though she had married and was living in St Pancras with her hubby and daughter. What confusion!!!
