    2. Chris Powter
    3. Looking for some help in locating a possible second marriage for Thomas POWTER. Thomas was born abt 1788 in Cambridge (father also Thomas, mother unknown). Thomas married Mary Parker in 1816 in Bishop's Stortford and is believed to have died there abt 1847. I have found a proved will dated 1851 for Thomas POWTER in Bishop's Stortford but his wife's name is Eliza. There are no other death records for a Thomas Powter in that timeframe. Thus I am looking for a possible second marriage for Thomas to Eliza (and I suppose a death for Mary). Can anyone help? Perhaps an 1841 census record? Thanks Chris Powter in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

    3. Eunice There is an entry for a marriage on the IGI for a John BROWN and Emily ORNANT 4 Jan 1860 St Mary Hitchin. 3. Hi Dot: Sorry if I confused you over where the 1851 census info related to - it was the 1851 census for Portsea, Hampshire, and Elizabeth CHALKLEY and her sister were from that area, nothing to do with Herts. William Robert WILLCOCKS remarried as a widower in 1858, in Hampshire, to Sarah J. GILES, who claimed St. Albans as her birthplace in the 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses. At the marriage, her father's name was given as George GILES. What I am trying to find out is more about Sarah J. GILES, given that her father was George. So far, she has not turned up in Herts in 1851. She could well have been in Hampshire by 1851, with her father, or could have been somewhere entirely different! I would really like to know if she was in St. Albans in 1841, aged 10, with her father George, and any other family members. Does anyone on the list have access to the 1841 census for a lookup, please? Any information greatly appreciated! Regards Martin Willcocks Taylorsville, UT, USA. If you can get a record of one of your ANSELL's in the 1851 Census and locate their birthplace then you will have the answer. There are a lot of Census CD's out there now for 1851 as well as a film which the latter are copied from. the relevant County records office will have it or a trip to the Mormon Church will provide it for you. Or, search the internet. All my ANSELL's are ag Labs and there were no cabs in Herts. Herts was a fairly impoverished county in the past from my experience. 3. Hi Thelma: Even though you turned up no entries for Sarah in 1851, the lack of success is still a help, since I can avoid asking the same question again. I will try the Portsmouth list. Were you able to find any 1841 census entries for the area? Also, what parish records are available for St. Albans churches in that period (1830-32). Is there somewhere a record of George Giles' marriage pre-1830? Many thanks for your helpful efforts.
