My great grandmother was Jane Catherine Gamon and I remember her son, my great uncle Walter Gamon Evans, saying there was a baronet in the family. I think this was Sir Richard Gamon of Datchworth. We are not descended from him but I wonder if there is a common ancestry further back. Is anyone researching him as he was a Hertfordshire man? My Gamons are Londoners, City and then Shoreditch, also researching EVANS originally from Witham, Essex, then London, St.Pancras and PUTMAN from Northchurch then Harefield, MIddx. Barbara

Hi Everyone, Thought I would ask the list for some help with finding John and Jane RICHARDSON in the 1851 census. I have found them in 1841 and 1861- information as follows. I have been through the 1851 film and cannot seem to locate them in Hertford and a friend who has the London cds for 1851 has found only one John and Jane Richardson but he was not a Wheelwright but a labourer and born in Scotland. I should say that she only looked in and around the address they were in 1861. Today I found the first 4 children in the All Saints and St John film. Mary Anne b 1842 looks to have been christened in St Andrews Hertford for the IGI. In 1841 the eldest child Sarah Jane is with her Nicholson grandparents and it looks like Eliza may have died although I did not find any burials in All Saints and St John. But then again the film was pretty awful in parts so I may have missed them. I think I found wife Jane still alive in Marylebone as a boarder. William and Mary Anne's entries in 1861 do not give occupations which makes it a little hard as there are a couple of possibilities for Wm Richardson in later censuses. So far two failed attempts at death certificates for John and Jane have curbed my enthusiasm somewhat. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Hello Phil, I have a Hanna BROWN in Hundsdon, Hertford b. 1802, I know that this is not your time frame, but her father was John, mother Elizabeth Rose. She 'may' have been connected to you Brown's! My Hanna married Thomas CUTMORE in 1818. I have not yet researched her line. Yes I know even then BROWN was probably a common name :) Regards, Jill J Subject: [HRT] (HERTS) Agnes BROWN Just starting to research my paternal grandmothers side of the family. Her name was Agnes BROWN b Hitchin 15/11/1879. She had two sisters Annie and Alice, these sisters did not marry. Their father was John Brown. The family moved into the Wellingborough area and there she married my grandfather William Robinson Sharman b 18/2/1877. I am looking for these Brown sisters, I think that their father's name was James and mother may be elizabeth. Any help in this please would be much appreciated. Eunice - Australia

Ann, Thanks for the help. I really need the 1851 Census for Mary THURLOW in Walpole, Suffolk now as she does not appear to be local. Otherwise all the 1841 Census is in conflict with the IGI - 10 years difference, a cross to bear at Easter.
