    3. Hi Keith, I think I may have found Elizabeth for you: RG12/1142, folio 47, page 3, Ecclesiastical Parish St Mary, Town Wendover, Bucks Schedule 17, Wendover Lodge John W MARKHAM Head M 38 Farmer Derbyshire Bretby Mary do Wife M 37 Bucks Mentmore Jack S do Son S 3 Bucks Wendover Matthew COX Nephew S 23 Assistant - Farmers nephew do Mentmore Elizabeth SMITH Serv M 30 Domestic Servant Cook Herts Tring Harriet BONNICK Serv S 22 do do Housemaid Northampton However, I can find neither William nor Joseph on Ancestry 1891 census no matter how I search for them and given that Elizabeth (if this is the correct one) says she is married, William should certainly be there. I also went back on to the 1871 census to check William's birthplace and it is definitely given as Marsworth there. I have also looked on the 1901 and could not find William or Joseph. Sorry not to have been more help. Janet Booth. ----- Original Message ----- From: "keith hammond" <ficus@euroweb.net.mt> To: <ENG-HERTFORDSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 11, 2005 11:47 AM Subject: [HRT] 1891 census please ? > Hi, > can anyone please help with an 1891 census for this family ? i am > posting them in 1881.Thank you. > > Keith in Malta. > Willm. 2. Alan Fincher
    3. Keith, (For info: You have posted to a Herts list, I think, but Buckland, where they are in 1881, is actually across the borders in Bucks...) I have had a quick look, but am struggling to find them as a family in 1891, (perhaps someone else will spot what I have failed to?). I can see an Elizabeth Smith, (a 30 year old "Domestic Servant Cook", and born in Tring), at Wendover Lodge, Wendover, Bucks. The household is that of John W Markham, a 38 year old farmer born in Derbyshire, his wife, son and nephew being at the same address. Curiously this Elizabeth Smith shows as married, (as opposed to widowed), but there are no other Smiths at this address, just another servant, (born in Northampton). Wendover is only about 3 miles from Buckland, by the way..... I can't find any other close match for Elizabeth, nor any obvious match for William or Joseph in 1891. Equally I can't see any burial in Buckland itself that might explain William or Joseph having dissapeared between 1881 and 1891..... Alan Fincher (Descended from a William Smith of Buckland, though mine was actually born there [in 1855], and married to Ann, not Elizabeth) keith hammond <ficus@euroweb.net.mt> wrote: Hi, can anyone please help with an 1891 census for this family ? i am posting them in 1881.Thank you. 3. I am re-submitting this email with a different subject line in the hope that more people will read it and solve my Hemel Hempstead queries!! John Jolly of Gadebridge Farm died in 1875. Would he have owned the farm? I know that it is no longer there but was it a large farm and where could I get any info/pictures about it? Same with Durrants Farm in Northchurch where one of his sons lived. Also, does anyone remember it being called Jolly Farm? I have found the Sear family at various addresses in Hemel Hempstead (as well as Picotts End, Two Waters, Waters End) and I wondered if any of these houses still exist! 1851: 130 Chapel St 1861: 76 Queen St 187 Marlowes 1871: 165 Marlowes Thanks in advance for any help anyone can give. Barbara

    3. Hi listers, I have been using the Times Digital Archive free for several years at home. I first came across it at Cambridge library, and at my request they provided me with the URL - all I need to do is add my personal library card number and bingo ... The images are fully searchable, and copies of the newspaper articles can be printed off as required (preferably on a laser printer!).
