I have ancestors who were not baptised until after two years old. Do you know her date of birth? It was sometimes written in the margin in Church Baptism records especially, I have noted, when there has been a large gap between birth and baptism. Dear list I would like to thank William for his quick and kind response in assisting me on the above subject. Thank you Kind regards Brian
Dear All I have a Sophia Austin bap 1807 Rickmansworth . Would it be possible to marry in 1820 in Berkhamstead to george garnett . She would have been just over 14 years old at the time. Is that too young in those days. THere is another sophia bap 1803 to same family so assume she died before the 1807 was born. Berkhamstead seem to have most bap on IGI and there is not one born there. I know this is a long shot but firstly is it feasible Many thanks Helen in Lancashire
Hi Becky, I have Mary Barker from Hitchin who I am trying to tally up with my family tree. Her daughter Martha Barker was a witness at one of my ancestors wedding. His name was Joseph Barker and I am trying to find out if they were related. Do you have any of these names? Would love to hear from you if you do. regards Penny ----- Original Message ----- From: "Becky Hanna" <marinebiogirl@gmail.com> To: <ENG-HERTFORDSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, April 11, 2005 7:09 PM Subject: [HRT] 1851/61 Census Look Ups (Hitchin) > Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me. Thelma, Thank you so much for the look up, I'm fairly sure this is my Mary, as her family ties in with some other bits I found out last night! I read your other message too, I'd already found them on the 1881, but was really interested to find out who her mother was! I'm still not sure, it looks like it's likely Ann or Martha (the name connection would suggest Martha of course!) but who knows. And I've found her grandmother too, which is exciting! Thanks so much! Dear Lister, I'm pretty sure that my GGG Grandparents were Robert PALLETT (1761 - 1832) and Elizabeth INNS (1767 - 1830), both of the Aston/Stevenage area. If anyone connects with either family I would be please to hear from them. Also if there is a connection with Jeremiah INNS who was seemingly a man of some substance in the Stevenage area, evidence as follows: Newspaper Cutting (The Times) 2/11/1945: 'Wills and Bequests Gift for Hospital Mr Jeremiah INNS, of Stevenage, Herts, left £1,080,982. He bequeathed his residence and effects to his wife during widowhood and then, if his residence is accepted, as a hospital to the Stevenage Urban District Council for a hospital together with £10,000; a piece of land, not exceeding one acre and £9,000 for four almshouses for poor persons resident in Stevenage for five years, and a similar bequest for four almshouse in Aston, Herts.' Yours, etc. Geoffrey Woollard in Cambridgeshire.
Keith, I think I may now have found Joseph Smith for you in 1891. At 1 Chapel Yard, New Town, Tring, Herts Ann HORN Head Widow Age 71 Straw Plaiter Born Tring Herts Joseph SMITH Grandson Age 10 Scholar Born Tring Herts (No other occupants) The reason I didn't find it before is that Joseph has been wrongly indexed as aged 70 (!) So additionally it looks like Elizabeth SMITH may well have been born Elizabeth HORN. Furthermore, I believe, that Ann HORN's age is 71, (it's indexed as 77, but after ignoring an enumerator's mark, I think 71 is much more likely). In that case, I think this is probably Elizabeth with her family in 1871. No 1 County Lane Cottages, West Lea, Tring, Herts James HORN Head Aged 51 Farm Labourer Born Terriers End, Bucks Ann HORN Wife Aged 51 Born Tring, Herts Margaret Horn Dau Aged 22 Born Tring, Herts Thomas HORN Son Aged 20 Labourer Born Terriers End, Bucks Jonah HORN Son Aged 16 Born Tring, Herts Elizabeth HORN Dau Aged 10 Born Tring, Herts (It's correct that only 2 of these show an occupation). Dear list Would it be possible for sks to assist with the 1871 Census for St Albans. Assumed address was Portland Street, St Michael's, St Albans, Herts. William Cockle, abt 47y as head of family with wife Sarah. To my knowledge they had several children, but as yet only confirmed 5 - George (b.1855), Emma (b.1856), William (b.1859), Eliza (b.1861) and Rosanna (b.1863) as yet haven't proved how long they lived. Hi, I am new to the list and live in Central Western NSW Australia. I am looking for Rev Maurice Phillips. On the reverse side of a morturary broach which must have come to Australia in the 1850s is "Rev Maurice Phillips died 1822, age 55." I have found the Rev Maurice Phillips on th 1822 PCC and Country Courts Index on the National Archives site. Executor is named as Esther Phillips of Harpenden Hrts. I have not made the link between my great grandmother Hannah Ada Sylvia Phillips (my dad said she was called Sylvia by the family) and the Rev Maurice. But think this broach with a plaited lock of hair must be the grandfather of Hannah Ada Sylvia born about 1843 'nr Bristol'. H.A.S States on her marriage certificate that her parents were John Phillips and Mary Ann Williams. Would be great to do a DNA test! I have looked on Family Search, Ancestry.com Genealogy.com for Maurice and for the marriage of John Phillips and Mary Ann Williams. Can anyone help please? Cynthia
