Hi, My name is Pauline and I live in Lancashire. I have just subscribed to this list and notice from the archives that there are people researching my family. Here is a copy of an email I have sent to one researcher and then I noticed that there are more of you: I am the great grand daughter of George Ansell and Elizabeth Ann Whittle who lived in Darwen, Lancashire. Elizabeth was first married to Abel (Abraham) Ansell, brother of George. George and Elizabeth never married but had seven children. Elizabeth also had 2 children with Abel. All the children of George were registered as HANSELL by their mother, in Blackburn except the only son, another George who was born in 1897 and registered as ANSELL by his father. This makes me suspect that the name was changed deliberately. I think that Abraham went back to Stevenage and married? again but not 100% sure on this. I have plenty of info on the ANSELLs and also the children of George and Elizabeth, one was my grandmother, Alice and another daughter, Elizabeth Ann known as Lily, married and went to Canada. I am in touch with the G-G-Grandson and the G-G-G-Grand-daughter of Lily. George, Abraham (Abel) and William, came north between the 1871 and 1881 census, probably to go to another brother, Edward, who was already in Little Smeaton, in Yorkshire. I do have info about the family of Edward but I would have to look it up. If anyone is interested, please contact me. Very best wishes, Pauline in Darwen, Lancashire
Wlliam Carter married Sarah Cornish in Bengeo 27 Jan 1780. Does anyone have record of children born to them, or other info about this couple? Any help will be very much appreciated. Julia Henderson
Alan Many thanks for that. Our suspicion is that one family member moved away from Glos and slightly changed his name. I have the University of Hertfordshire Press transcription of the 1851 census for the Great Berkhamsted Region of Herts, which includes Tring and surrounding Hertfordshire villages. The index for this lists no SELL, SEAL or SEALE entries at all. I don't have access to 1841 information, unfortunately. Hi List I would be most grateful if some one could look up a MASLIN family in the 1841 census at Shenley or London Colney. I have found the family I have been searching for for 20 years and I am pretty excited. I can do lookups for Australia if anyone would like. That is from my own resources. Also can anyone sugest a reasonably priced researcher for Hertford please. Thankyou so much Gail in Australia
Researching my wife's SEAL(E) line from Marshfield in Glos we find a tentative connection to a CHARLES SELL who appears on the 1861. 1871 and 1881 Censuses claiming to be born TRING Hertfordshire. Hi I am searching for Mary Graves born about 1840 in Stanstead. She had a sister Elizabeth born about 1841/1842. I sent for a birth certificate, but I know I have the wrong one. In 1861 Mary had married and was living with her husband in Enfield, Middx, with her younger sister Elizabeth. Having looked on the IGI, I believe that their parents were Benjamin Graves and Mary Hutchins. On the 1861 census I found Benjamin with Ann living Stanstead, but I believe that Benjamin remarried in 1860. Does anyone have access to either 1851/1841 census that could do a look up for me to see if either Mary or Elizabeth are at home with Benjamin during that time. In 1861 he was living in Stanstead Street with his wife Ann. Finally I have found a Mary Graves on the indexes registered in Hitchin. Does this sound about right if she was born in Stanstead? Thanks Denise, Enfield Also researching ADAMS and HOPKINS in Cheshunt
Thanks Thelma. Both names I wanted, though the Leavesdon was clearer. Cashie/Cathie...well both near enough. What would a hamlet be then....in size and number of houses? A sort of cheaper place to live, or just to be "in the country". I see my sheet of the census has any number of Farms around that one address of Nascot Cottage. sounds countrified doesn't it? many thanks. My sincere apologies to the kind person who replied to the above request. In my rush to get rid of all the spam, I accidently deleted it. I hope you still have a copy in your "Sent" file. Could you please oblige and forward it again. Sorry. Noeline, Wollongong, NSW Australia.
