Hi Eunice, I found John and Emily where they were in 1871. Catherine and family was a different story. Found a possible candidate with the right age and a daughter Mary A born in the right place. Surname is spelt Omens. I went back to the 1871 census and it was spelt Arnant there. I believe this is her. There are no other entries that match with a daughter Mary Ann. In 1861 there is an older son Alfred. Have you look at 1851? I cannot remember if I offered to look at it for you. Images sent off list. Just a little bit more to add to this thread regarding Kitty Omant, I have her baptism date as 14 April 1808, also George Spriggins 1835, Emily 1841, Alfred 1844 and Mary Ann 1849 were all Kitty's (or Catherine's) illegitimate children. The name has been spelt many different ways and I think that the name originated as HAMMOND, but that's just my opinion at the moment until I find some proof. There is one staying in Islington RG12/146, folio 33, page 62 with a Frederick TAYLOR (aged 31, born London, who is a decorator). This Frank is described as Brother, aged 25, Single, a Carman (which would fit) but born in Highgate.
