I noticed the above in the 1861 census at Clivige, Burnley, Lancs. on RG9/3074 (or 3079) F52 in household of William Thursby, Independent, born Northamptonshire. To answer Keith's original questions, your ancestor's 1877 birth could have taken place in any one of the places abovementioned, and it would depend which one it was as to whether the event happened "in London" as not all these places were in London then, and some are still not. Edmonton RD is still officially in Middlesex, which is different to the County of London, which was created in the late 19th century from places formerly in Middlesex, Essex, and other historic counties. To find out which place their birth/christening was recorded in, try using the Familysearch website, or look for the person in the 1881 census to see where they were living aged about 4, and go from there. Of course, place of birth may well have no bearing at all on whether the person saw themselves as a Londoner in later life.
