He was born either 1815, 1821 or 1832 in Thundridge, Hertfordshire. I know he married Margaret PALLETT in 1855, on the marriage certificate it lists George's father as John PALLETT. No mother mentioned. On the Census:- 1861 age 41 1871 age 50 1881 age 59 1891 age 72 He did not seem to know his correct age, understandable in those days if you could not read or write. Regardless of the above, I do have a problem in identifying his parents, particularly his mother who was either Ann or Lidia. Any suggestions from any one to help me solve this problem. I have him as being born at Hunsdon in 1821, son of Thomas CUTMORE and Hannah BROWN. Moreover, I have you as my cousin - through the PALLETTs!!! Yours, etc. Geoffrey Woollard in Cambridgeshire.

Hello list I have just joined this list but I am going for a long shot here... I have Thomas POTTER (b.c 1833 Kentisbeare,Devon, d 1900 Royston, Hert, m? sp: Eliza ? (b.c 1834-Royston,Hertford,England Thomas and Eliza had 8 children. Thomas Robinson POTTER bc1857 - Royston Herts Harper POTTER, b Nov 1858, Kentisbeare, Devon, or Royston Herts depending on census Mary Jane POTTER bc1861, Kentisbeare, Devon William POTTER, b 1864 Kentisbeare, Devon Alfred Samuel POTTER, bc1866, Royston Herts Selina POTTER bc 1869 Royston Herts (marries George Robinson of Royston) Harry POTTER, bc 1871 Royston Herts Emily POTTER bc 1873 Royston Herts My problem is that for the life of me, I cannot find Eliza and Thomas's marriage, nor do I know her maiden name. From the IGI, I believe that it may be either: Eliza ROBINSON (note first sons middle name) Christening: 08 DEC 1833 Royston, Hertford, England Father: DANIEL ROBINSON Family Mother: SARAH or Elizabeth PRYOR Birth: 09 DEC 1834 Royston, Hertford, England Father: John Pryor Family Mother: Elizabeth But cannot determine for sure.... Harper (their second son) is a name that also occurs in Thomas's brother's family so I would doubt that it would be her maiden name.... Any help would be most appreciated. Sandra in Ontario, Canada
Hi all Back again after a break. Could SKS please look up the 1851 census for Watford, I am looking for a George HEDGE or EDGE born abt 1852. Many Thanks Paul
Sorry for the triple posting but I am searching for the PARADINE family that came from Bucks originally (Pearce PARADINE that married Jane BULL) Pearce and Jane had 6 children - Thomas, Eliza, Annie, Fred, John and Alice In 1873 Thomas and his wife Susan (nee TIMMS) went to Australia. Thomas' younger brother, John, went with them, along with their own two children, Edward and Frederick I am also looking for any descendants of Lizzie (Elizabeth) PARADINE that married a Harry (Henry) GREEN. Lizzie and Harry had 7 children - Percival, Cyril, Harold (who died at a very young age) Walter, Hilda, Jeffrey and Annie Walter married Madeline Lily ELPHICK in February 1920 in Steyning, Sussex and moved back to Bushey, Hertfordshire where their first child, Joyce Marjorie GREEN was born in October of the same year. In 1923, they had a son, Leslie Frank - I do not know of any other children Is there anyone out there that these people could be connected to? Judy BC Canada
If SKS is looking at the marriages in Hatfield sometime , I'd be very grateful if they could look at this one from the IGI: MARY NEWMAN Marriages: Spouse: THOMAS BEGG Family Marriage: 12 OCT 1825 Hatfield, Hertford, England Batch No.: Dates: M047432 1813 - 1829 0569726 Film 6911435 ( I expect that BEGG will actually read BIGG . I'm hoping for any extra information beyond the IGI data , such as witness names or (if I'm very lucky ) occupation or parish of origin .) Thanks , and : Best wishes to all listers, Robert Hillier

Hello List I've just received the birth certificate of my ggrandmother Maria Kneller PETTY. She was born on 12 Februray 1842 to William and Sarah (nee JONES) PETTY and the place of birth was Reservoir Aldenham. My first question is: does this family appear in anyone's tree? And secondly could a knowledgeable lister explain what the address Reservoir Aldenham might have entailed in 1842. Thanks in advance. Regards Terry Warren Hervey Bay Queensland Australia formerly of the South London Borough of Bromley
Terry.... > .... And secondly could a knowledgeable lister explain what the address > Reservoir Aldenham might have entailed in 1842. Search for "aldenham reservoir" at www.google.co.uk and you'll have enough reading to keep yourself busy for hours. Mike
Are there Withers/Weathers/Wythers on the list who might have had ancestors who emigrated to the States in the 1600s or early 1700s? I have proven to 1719 in Virginia, Surry/Sussex Counties, USA, a Thomas Weathers/Withers (d. 1744). If interested, contact me privately, please. Best regards, Sarah Withers Keesee lydiap@salisbury.net [Salisbury, North Carolina, USA]

Hi, I have found that my grandfather was a Domestic Gardener at the above place. It was run by Heptizibah DIXON. I have tried to find information about it with limited success. If anyone can point me in the right direction it would be appreciated. Thanks. Regards Brenda
Hi Karen, You can search the National Archives Catalogue on line for any missing census parts. Choose "Search the Catalogue" then on the search screen enter "missing" in the box "Word or Phrase" and "HO107" in the box "Department or Series Code". In the search results Puttenham is not shown as missing. You should be able to see it at the National Archives or The County Record Office. Some record searches need the word "wanting" so it is always worth trying both. Happy burrowing, Raymond

Hello Susan, Thanks for your response to my BARKER enquiry. I would guess that your BARKERs from Weston, are more likely to be connected to Joannes line. Mine came from Witham. Sarah BARKER died in Colchester in 1810. I don't have any other descendants of her family. I don't know how close the Weston and Witham are, and how likely the families are to link up? I imagine BARKER was not an uncommon name. Thanks again for getting back to me. If anyone is willing to assist with an 1841 census lookup, I would be grateful. I am looking for a family, including one or both parents Mary and William NORRIS, with possible children including Charles aged about 16 and Simeon aged about 13, and perhaps others (likely older), living Northchurch or Berkhampstead, Herts. Any results, whether trascription or image, would be most welcome. Thank you. Regards Ian in Canberra
