Hi Peter Here is Eliza on the 1852 Census. Ag Labourer born Tewin I think your Eliza was in Islington, St Mary,London working as a servant for John and Catherine Stewardson Eliza Page 21 years, servant, born Tewin Herts. Not sure what happened to young Frederick, there is a Frederick Page aged 10 living with another Page family in Datchworth but it records him as being their son... probably related. So may be poor Freddy died. Nothing jumps out for the 1871 Census so maybe the women had married or Mary had remarried. If you check FreeBMD or the IGI Index, you might be able to track them. Greetings to all My name is Peter Page and my interests are centred around Joseph aka Joshua Page born in Datchworth c1815 married Mary Wiltshire 1839 Hertingfordbury and fathered Eliza Rebecca Page who was baptised in Tewin 1840. Joshua was transported to VDL (Tasmania) in 1842 for stealing from his employer a tea merchant - thus making him a tea leaf ( thief ) in the real sense. The merchant name was Edward Rayment of Hertford. I have documented Joshua's descendeants in Australia but have never discoveredc the fate of his English born daughter Elizabeth Rebecca Page. Is ther anybody aware of this family? regards Peter
Hi Peter From the 1851 census HO107 1711 167 Parish of Tewin Poplars Green Richard Wiltsher abt 1790 Tewin, Hertfordshire, England Head Tewin Hertfordshire Maria Wiltsher abt 1791 Hertingfordbury, Hertfordshire, England Wife Tewin Hertfordshire Willm Wiltsher abt 1825 Tewin, Hertfordshire, England Son Tewin Hertfordshire Emma Wiltsher abt 1833 Tewin, Hertfordshire, England Daughter Tewin Hertfordshire Chas Wiltsher abt 1837 Tewin, Hertfordshire, England Son Tewin Hertfordshire Mary Page abt 1819 Tewin, Hertfordshire, England Daughter Tewin Hertfordshire Eliza Page abt 1841 Hertingfordbury, Hertfordshire, England Daughter Tewin Hertfordshire Emma Page abt 1847 Hertingfordbury, Hertfordshire, England Daughter Tewin Hertfordshire Frederick Page abt 1849 Hertingfordbury, Hertfordshire, England Son Tewin Hertfordshire Now unless she was an elephant I suspect theres something amiss as she has two further children in tow born after you say the father was transported? Surely would be some coincidence if this was not your family? In 1861 there is a Mary PAGE b1839 Tewin working as a general servant for a Mr John STEWARDSON and wife In 1871 there is a Mary STEWARDSON b1839 Tewin as head of houshold with daughter Eliza 7 and son Edwin 5, living in Islington Also in 1871 there is a John STEWARDSON same birth place and birth year as 1861 census living in Clerkenwell on his own a widower. Hi Mary, I had a quick look at the Social Security Death Index for the USA and there are no Jean Agnes born 1927, but there are some 228 Jean A. listed. Maybe you need a marriage lookup in the UK for the 1944 - 50 time frame. If the children were born UK maybe a first name with mothers maiden name look up might help. Also a possible US State that they lived in. Can anyone supply any info about the London orphanage (perhaps not its full or correct name) which stood near Watford Junction station (on the left of the line going towards London)? I think I recall seeing the building still standing when flashing by on the train recently, but is it still a school of any sort? Donald Massey

Still looking for David and Julia Wadhams in this area in from 1901 onwards. Looking for information on 42 Elm Grove also known as 42 Dunmow Road where they were recorded as living in late 1910. Some of the family lived here till 1980's. Also recorded as living at Meredith Cottages, Hockerill Bishops Stortford in 1910 but when did they first live there. David was a carpenter/joiner. Thanks Derick, You're a star!! I've been trying to confirm this link for months. Now I can truly say I'm descended from a criminal who died in Hertford Gaol. Barbara - get a life!! Someone else did a look up on the 1841 census but couldn't find them, so I'd just about given up hope. Yes, it is Dorcas. Cornelius was born in Suffolk (no idea what they were doing there) and only really began being connected as a definte son a few weeks ago when I got the Hertford Mercury report of their arrests in 1848. Cornelius and Esau were transported to Australia in 1849 for crimes unrelated to the one already mentioned, and I am in contact with their descendants, so I shall pass this information on to them. It certainly ties up a lot of loose ends. John Searle was my 3xGreat Grandfather. At least his oldest son William seems to have stayed on the straight and narrow. Once again, thank you for sending me this information Regards Barbara> ----------------------------------------- Email sent from www.ntlworld.com Virus-checked using McAfee(R) Software Visit www.ntlworld.com/security for more information
