Hi Gay Thanks for your help with Joseph Tavener and the 1851 census but I haven't received the image. At least his age on the 1851 is in line with that on the 1861 and it does look like he was born in 1811. Now I need to find his parents/siblings. Although his uncle Henry Hodges and his son albert were still around kings langley. any help welcome
Looking at the 1851 Ancestry Census for SHAMBROOK in Shenley (transcribed as Hambrook) I noticed that at the end of the batch that it says - "End of the Parish of Shenley not included in the ecclesiastical district of St Peters Colney." Could someone please tell me which district they were likley to fall under. The SHAMBROOK family were living at 157 Ridge Lane, Shenley. Maureen, Below I have sent my notes on Mary Page nee Wiltshire and as you will pretty much match you email, thank you. I am curious why you think Eliza was in Islington, St Mary,London working as a servant for John and Catherine Stewardson ( Eliza Page 21 years, servant, born Tewin Herts.) I guess this is from the 1861 census. Perhaps Alfred and FREDrick are the same person. 1851 Joshua's first wife Mary is still a Page and shown as a needlewoman and wife living at Poplar's Green, Tewin. Her family has increased, Eliza Rebecca (Joshua's daughter) is now ten years old but there are two illegitimate children, Emma 4 and Fred 2. By 1861 Mary had moved to Burnham Green, Datchworth, is calling herself a widow, has added George, Sarah and Alice to the family and her trade is charwoman or tea lady. Her family did not stop growing, with William baptised in that year . Ponder her relationship with Joshua's parents, William and Jane, who are now both 76 years old. She is living in the same village having borne seven children in his name well after he had left for Van Diemen's Land. In 1866 Joshua's father passed away, his mother the following year and Mary has her last child baptised Maria. The Datchworth Parish Baptism Register highlighted Mary Page's plight with the following entries; March 21st 1858 Baptised Sarah Anne, illegitimate daughter of Mary Page, whose husband is under sentence of Transportation. August 27th 1859 Alice, illegitimate daughter of Mary Page, the husband has not returned from transportation. February 10th 1861 William, illegitimate son, husband still away. June 10th 1867 Maria, illegitimate daughter, husband in Australia. Needlewoman 1851 Charwoman 1861 Census 1861 Burnham Green:Mary Page head of household widow 38 - Charwoman b. Tewin, Emma 15 servant b. Tewin, Alfred 11 Ag lab, George 9 scholar, Sarah 4 scholar b. Datchworth, Alice 5 scholar b. Datchworth. William Roy or Ray lodger 31 Ag Lab b. Datchworth. William Roy/Ray maybe the father of the children born after Joshua was transported ? Note William was born 1861, at this time, thus William Roy/Ray is most likely the father, another child Maria is born 1867. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Robert Player" <player6@bigpond.com> To: <ENG-HERTFORDSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, November 12, 2005 9:06 AM Subject: Re: [HRT] new member interests > Hi Peter > > Here is Eliza on the 1852 Census. I'm trying to find the family of David BRAY and Ann HOLLINGSWORTH. By 1851, Ann was a widow, and living in Aston, Herts, with two sons, David and Daniel, and a married daughter, Letitia PENN. If anyone could find the family in the 1841 census for Aston I would be very grateful. Judy Tasmania
Hi, I am new to this list. I have been researching my family tree and have tracked them back to Andrew Wille(y) who died in Weston in 1766 at the age of 73. He has a plot in the churchyard there and I hope to find more at HALs since I found out how old he was. Andrew's son James (b1742) was my GGGG grandfather and he married Alice Bennet from Ware in 1768 and had a second marriage to Susanna Swain in 1787. His son James (my GGG grandfather b:1772) married Ann Allen in Clothall in 1794. James and Ann left Weston at some point and went to live in Chipping Barnet and the line gradually moved further into London. I am particularly interested in the probable 50-100 year period that the Willey family were prominant in Weston (They were Yeoman who undertook responsibilities such as surveyor of roads and overseers of the poor). This is somewhere around 1700-1725 up until 1800 - 1825. I don't just want to trace a line of names but to understand as much as possible about what life was like back then in and around Weston/Herts. My nephew is a publisher and we are interested in compiling a work that would set ordinary family life against the background of policital and economic life and the arts at that time. Any information that would point me in the right direction would be much appreciated but particularly any information anyone has about Weston and its surrounding villages and towns and any contacts with the people in my tree. Thanks. Best wishes Marion

DAVID JUDD -----Original Message----- From: Janet Booth [mailto:janbooth@dsl.pipex.com] Sent: 10 November 2005 16:20 To: ENG-HERTFORDSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [HRT] JUDDs in Ashwell David, What tiimescale are you interested in. There is no index and the transcripts are a big booklet dating from 1604 to 1863 so it would be a massive task to look through it all for JUDDs. Hi Anyone with Parish Records for Kings Langley/ Hemel Hempstead for period around 1750, could you please help me. William TURNER married Sarah BATCHELDOR - 1 Feb. 1773 in Kings Langley. Isaac was born 24 June 1778 - they probably had more children. I'm particularly interested to find William's birth and parentage and any other information relating to that family. Any help will be gratefully received. Sheila
