    3. You could try Hugh Wallis's web site which allows you to search particular parishes that are on the IGI. I note that both Hemel Hempstead and Tring are listed. http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/ Sandra ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, March 25, 2008 10:26 PM Subject: Re: [HRT] Joseph Garnett of Kimpton or Tring > Hi Sandra, > > Yes, I'm not thinking straight. I have a will dated 1801 - proved 1804 - for a Joseph Garnett born 1740 in Tring, Hertfordshire. He was an owner of a canvas weaving business. The Garnetts I have started off in Kimpton, Hertfordshire. In his will Joseph leaves his business to his nephew John Cutler (Cuttler) born 1748 Hemel Hempstead and John's son George Cutler (born 1776 - Tring). He also gives a tenement and £100 to Gideon Cato who worked for him in the canvas weaving business. John Cuttler married Ann Bull on 11 Oct 1773 in Church of England and brought the children up in Tring. My query is, Joseph says his nephew is John Cutler so wouldn't John have been married to a sister of Joseph's? He also leaves money to his sister Hanah but I can't find a birth for this sister. In the will it looks like Hanah Aichel and his nephew (Hanah's son?) George Aichel but I can't find any Aichels anywhere. And he also leaves money to his nieces - ------ Wells spinster and Elizabeth Grace spinster. It's all a minefield as I can't seem to tie up the connection of the Garnetts to the Cutlers - but throughout history after this time, Garnett is passed down through the Cutler family as a middle name. Hope someone can help. Can anyone verify which is the true marriage please? Thanks, Diana

    2. Elizabeth McMillan
    3. Does anyone know anything about the origin of the surname WINMILL? The majority of WINMILL families seem to come from Buckinghamshire and Bedfordshire, but it looks like we had WINMILL family in Hertfordshire (Hemel Hempstead vicinity). Stephen WINMILL seems to be a name that repeats as a name for a few family members.
