Hi Mike I think we are talking about the same family. They are mainly in West Hyde & the name is spelt in so many different ways that I am having an awful job finding them through the census. Hope you don't mind but I shall contact you of list & hopefully will try to help. Hi listers, Does anyone have a Charles Wright of Hoddesdon on their tree? My ancestors stole three fowl from him in 1868 and I'd be interested to find out more about him and his household. Cheers, Lisa
Hi Sue, thanks for your reply. The Epithites in question are my wifes aunts mother and father. Grace was the daughter of UNK Epithite and Elizabeth Wallace, who died in Watford in 1922. As far as i can ascertain at present Grace had the following siblings Ruth, Kate, Violet May, Horace & Reginald, and they all appear to be around the Watford/Rickmansworth area. Unfortuately thats all i have a present. regards Mike ----- Original Message ---- From: Sue Giddins <[email protected]> To: [email protected] Sent: Sunday, 1 June, 2008 10:37:19 AM Subject: Re: [HRT] Epithite/Ebathite/Epathite Hi Mike Do you have an area or time scale for your Epathite's. Can anyone help with Silas b,Ware 1852,wife Sarah, children Arthur,b.1879, Rose,b.1884, Laura,b.1887 and Daisy,b.1893. I have them up to 1901 census when they were in Waltham Abbey. They also had Charles b.1874 and Silas b.1896 who was my grandfather. I cannot find anything else on Arthur,Rose,Laura and Daisy although I have a strong sense that one of the ladies lived in Cheshunt around the late 40s/mid50s. Thanks in Anticipation Pam

Hi List, On the subject of burials at St Helens, in January 2008, Jan from Ontario,Canada was seeking to find the burial place of her great-grandfather, Earnest John Palfrey at this location. My wife and I carried out a preliminary search of about a 1/3rd of this quite large area without success. Subsequent emails to Jan on this subject have gone unanswered. Jan, if you see this, please get in touch again if you are still looking. John. St Albans. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Elaine Saunders" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, April 28, 2008 2:35 PM Subject: [HRT] Wheathampstead, St Helens > I've just posted a partial list of memorial inscriptions for St Helen's > church, Wheathampstead, Herts, UK which might be of help to someone > researching this area. Thank you Roy for that enlightening information. In 1841 Daniel was a widower and in lodgings but it's possible that he was living on his own by the time of his death. I'll take your advice and consult the The British Library's newspaper library. My thanks to Roy and Tony for the marriage at Broxbourne for a John Waller and Mary Baker. I had found this one on HAL's online website but I've also found these baptisms in Broxbourne for children of John Waller (no mother's name unfortunately) which would also fit the marriage in 1710 so I'm still undecided. Broxbourne - Baptisms Mary Wallar baptised 28 February 1711Father: John Wallar Ann Waller baptised 18 November 1714Father: John Waller Elizabeth Waller baptised 21 March 1716Father: John Waller Does anyone know if all the Hertfordshire marriages are on HAL's website or are they still adding to them? RE: Ernest John Palfery of St Albans, Herts., buried in St Helen's. Hi John, your last email to me is dated March 25, 2008 (in regards to The Elephant & Castle Inn at Wheathampstead) and contained the following: (edited to maintain appropriateness for the list) Hi Jan Not sure whether I thanked you for your last attaching pictures of the inn. Would have taken more pix, if we'd remembered the camera, if you had not already excellent photos and we had not had so much to eat. Another time perhaps. Grave (sorry) doubts were expressed there about the chances of success at St Helens. But as soon as the weather really warms up, we will be back to church on our hands and knees! John. ********* I'm sorry, John but that was the last email that I received from you. I was waiting patiently for an update. Sorry John. Perhaps he was an elderly man who lived alone and had nobody to look after him, so declined. It is unlikely, I would have thought, in such a case there would have been an inquest. However, the best place to discover what papers would have covered St Albans in 1843 is at the British Library's newspaper library website (the newspaper library at Colindale). You can find this quite easily with Google. -- Roy Stockdill Professional genealogical researcher, writer & lecturer Newbies' Guide to Genealogy & Family History: www.genuki.org.uk/gs/Newbie.html "There is only one thing in the world worse than being talked about, and that is not being talked about." I have a copy of the death certificate of Daniel Waller who died in Bovingdon in 1843. The informant is the Coroner from St. Albans. The cause of death looks like "Visitation of God, illness caused by want of necefsarys." Does that sound as if he starved to death or died because he had nobody to care for him? Would there have been an inquest and if so can someone advise me as to which newspaper may have carried the story at the time? Thank you. Hi listers, Can anyone help? Kitty Cutler (Cuttler) was married to John Barber in 1794 in Tring, Herts. Can anyone find a birth/baptism for Kitty please? I'm wondering if this could be a second marriage for Kitty and therefore her surname Cutler might not be the right name to search for a birth. Any way round this? Kitty and john Barber had a son Thomas born 1796 in Tring. He married Lucy Sear(e) in Tring in 1818. Many thanks. Diana
