Dear Listers, My wife has a relation at the end of the 19th century whose job was given as a Commercial clerk. She has an idea that he might have been a bookie or have worked for one. Could the term 'Commercial clerk' have covered this or was it simply a clerk who worked for a company? Any suggestions? Cheers, Mike Holt.
