I thought I would try re-posting my interests since the list has been so active lately. I am looking for my 5g grandfather John or James LILLY. He came from Bishopsgate in the City of London and married Priscilla EARL at Hereford Cathedral Church on 6th February 1721. Priscilla was born in Bromyard, Hereford and christened on 24th April 1700. I know that John/James went on to marry my 5g grandmother, Ann LAUGHARNE, at Llanreithen Church, Pembrokeshire on 30th November 1735. I am trying to establish John/James LILLY's parents but it seems that the registers at Hereford Cathedral Church at that time didn't record parents of the bride/groom. I believe that a fellow researcher Mac MERCER may know something about the LILLY/EARL marriage but the e-mail address listed in the HFHS Surnames List keeps bouncing. I would be very grateful to hear from anyone who is in contact with Mr MERCER. I would also be interested in hearing from anyone who is researching the EARL name and has come ! accross Priscilla from Bromyard. Apparently when John/James LILLY married Ann LAUGHARNE her brother took him to court for bigamy! Apparently, however, John/James was able to satisfy the court that Priscilla had died before he married Ann. It would be kind of nice to know that poor Priscila had indeed pre-deceased the second LILLY marriage. All the best to the list, John Anstey Lockerbie Scotland
