Hi All, I don't recollect seeing this one being publicised on the lists recently, but it could prove useful. It is the Internet Library of Early Journals at http://www.bodley.ox.ac.uk/ilej/ It comprises images of the pages of 18th & 19th journals such as the Gentleman's Magazine (which has births, marriages & deaths notices), Notes and Queries, etc. Each run comprises at least 20 volumes. However, there are a few points to note:- 1. The project has now come to an end (presumably as no more funding is available) and volumes that are missing are not going to be added. :-( However, you should be able to view them at the Newspaper Library in Colindale, London. 2. I didn't have much luck using their Search engine on either the name LONGMORE or the term Deaths, though I knew that there was a death announcement for a LONGMORE on page 292 of the 1736 issue. 3. The Browse button allows you to brwose through a title by year, month and page, but without this salient information it would be a long slow job. However, there is a multi-volume book called Musgrave's Obituary which contains the references to thousands of pre-1800 obituaries and death notices. Both Birmingham and Devon Libraries have a set (and probably several other libraries too). However, for those of you who would like a personal copy, Rod Neep has put them onto a CD-ROM and details can be found at http://www.rod-neep.co.uk/acatalog/Archive_CD_Books_Obituaries_149.html If you want to have a play, just see if you can find this one:- Musgrave's Obituary entry says: ROWBRAY, John, cupbearer to K. Jas. II, 16 August 1733, GM 438 (The GM stands for Gentleman's Magazine) Have fun, Mo (The LONGMORE Pages at www.msheppard.com)
