    1. [HEF] PROSSER-Kings Pyon to Weobley

    3. I have received a communication from a lady in the USA who is descended from my 4 x g.grandfather, James PROSSER of Kings Pyon. All thanks to the Hereford Surnames Interest List. James and Mary PROSSER had four daughters in Kings Pyon between l787 and l794 - Elizabeth, Margaret, Betty (Susannah) and Jane. Elizabeth was my 3 x g.grandmother, and I am descended from her daughter, Susannah PINKERTON. Elizabeth's youngest sister Jane married John ARCHER at Weobley in l825. She had had an illegitimate son, Joseph Bowen PROSSER eight years previously, bap. at Weobley in l8l7. Pat in America is descended from Joseph. There is an anomaly in our information. Can anyone help? I have found Joseph, his wife Eliza and three daughters, Ann (9) Eliza (7)and Thirza(1) living in Weobley in l85l but I have not located their marriage. Joseph was a master shoemaker and lived in Broad Street, Weobley. Pat in America has a marriage certificate for Joseph Bowen PROSSER and Eliza JONES who married at St. Georges, Hanover Square, London in l858. She found this information as a result of the details given on the death certificate for their daughter Mabel Thirza PROSSER (born Weobley). Apparently her Joseph Bowen PROSSER became a missionary. Would anyone be kind enough to look for an l86l census entry for Joseph and Eliza PROSSER at Weobley. Would he still have been a shoemaker at Weobley in later Trade Directories? I just wonder whether we are, indeed, talking about the same couple - though it would be a big coincidence if we were not. Could it be that Joseph and Eliza travelled to London to marry after they had had their family in Weobley? Perhaps Pat has been sent the wrong marriage certificate - could there have been a Joseph Bowen PROSSER marrying an Eliza(beth) JONES in Herefordshire prior to l84l? There really cannot be that many (Mabel)Thirza PROSSERS born to Joseph Bowen PROSSER in Weobley, can there? I'd welcome any thoughts on this. Many thanks Diane Johansen
