Cathy: The 1841 census has the following four men by the name of Thomas Austin residing in Herefordshire: a) age 46 living at Fownhope b) age 15 living at Kinnersley c) age 55 living at Lyonshall d) age 35 living at Weobley. It looks as though a) is an accurate age, and b) to d) have been rounded down. There was also a Thomas Austen age 8 at Winforton. Hope this helps. He died of convulsions at Norton Canon, the death was registered by Thomas AUSTIN, present at the death Norton Canon. I am hoping that this is the son of my ancestor Ann PREECE the widow of Thomas PREECE who died 5 months earlier in 1839, they lived at Pig Street, Norton Canon. I was hoping that this was perhaps a neighbour who came to provide assistance at the time, but I cannot so far find a Thomas AUSTIN in Norton Canon on my 1841 census images CD. If anyone has an index to the 1841 census please could they look for him, I would be so very grateful.
