    3. Hi I'm looking for a bit of guidance about where to look next The story so far: I have William Lewis, cattle dealer, born circa 1803 Abergavenny MON on the 1851 Census at Hereford St Martins At http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~monfamilies/Parish-Record-Transcrip ts.htm I found a William Lewis baptised 20 May 1803 in Abergavenny. His parents were William and Theodisia Sophia. I also found baptisms for 2 sisters, Ann 1802, and Frances 1804. At http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~monfamilies/Monmarrindex.html I found William Lewis of Abergavenny married Theodisia Pritchard of Abergavenny at Abergavenny by licence 19 Apr 1801. I then checked the IGI and found Theodisia Sophia Pritchard baptised 31 Oct 1784 at Madley Hereford. Her parents were James and Anne. I also found her sister Elizabeth's baptism in 1780. Strange thing: there were only female baptisms on that batch number C155431, the males are missing. Is there an alternate source for these baptisms that may include males? There are 3 possible marriages for James and Ann/Anne on the IGI, but none that doesn't invite additional questions. Are there other sources to check for this marriage? I re-checked the Abergavenny baptisms for additional children of James and Anne - there were none. Is it possible to get a copy of the marriage licence for William and Theodisia? How? Will it provide any useful information? Any suggestions will be gratefully received Sandra

    3. Sandra, Now for the very bad news! The LDS British Isles Vital Record Index gives TWO Theodosia Pritchard baptisms in 1784 at Madley. One, Thedosia Sophia to Thomas and Ann and another just Theodosia to James and Ann, both on 31 October. There is also another Pritcahrd family baptising at Madley arounds the same time, James and Martha. Their Theodosia was baptised well before, in 1764. Most of these families baptims are duplicated as they appear on two films, 1594325 and 992320. I will send ypou copies of all these off list. Not counting duplications there are 11 children to Thomas and Ann. Only 2 to James and Ann. Two comments. James may be a mistranscription for Thomas. James' other child does fit neatly into a gap in Thomas' string. Thomas and Ann might be two couples. The first thing is to check the registers. The Vital Records Index has no matching marriages at Madeley. All the best, Alec Whitfield from North Herefordshire UK [email protected]
