Thank you to all who replied. I hope that I have thanked all of you individually off List, but please forgive me if I have missed any of you - it is not that you are unappreciated but I was "otherwise occupied" - Thursday and Friday was much taken up with buying a new (to me!) car and selling the old one and then getting my number plate (POL 2Y!) put on the new one..... But back to business. The reason that you could not find the page reference given on Ancestry is that they have made an error in identifying the folio number of the page. They have it as folio 378, although the next image/page is correctly folio 382. I asked for further details of the person, and was told that it was "the very first household in Uffington... She was Sophia M Kirkpatrick, dau-in-law, married, 23, born in all those different spellings." So thanks to identifying the family I have found her marriage on FreeBMD: Marriages Dec 1849 Hatton Sophia Maria Faringdon 6 387 Kirkpatrick James Faringdon 6 387 and her baptism on the FamilySearch IGI: SOPHIA MARIA HATTON Christening: 25 AUG 1827 Weston Under Penyard, Hereford, England Father: LEWIS HATTON Mother: SOPHIA Using the Old Maps reference www.old-maps.co.uk - Pontshill, suggested on the HEF List by Ruth Darwen, I soon discovered that it was in the parish of Weston under Penyard. Scroll north from where the link lands you. So QED! Thannks to all of you for your suggestions. I had come up with Putley and Puddlestone as possibilities, but did not have the local knowledge required to make this correct identification. As Ruth says it is easy to see how "Pontshill" could be written as "Punsel" by someone unfamiliar with the dialect/spelling. Kind regards Polly
