    3. Hi Alec If you can send me a scan or a photocopy I'll have a look. It is very hard to guess without seeing it! Regards Polly ----- Original Message ----- From: "Alec Whitfield" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Tuesday, August 29, 2006 9:34 PM Subject: [HEF] Presteigne streeet name. Hi! I have peroblem with a will of 1750. There is a reference to a street in Presteigne. The word 'Street' is clear enough but the actual name is unclear. It is short, probably four letters. The only possible on the web Multimap is 'High Street'. However the last letter has a curved descender and so is 'g' or less probably 'y'. The penultimate letter is a small circle and so 'a', 'e' or 'o'. Any suggestions are very welcome. I can then see if there is a fit with the remains of the first letter or two. Thanks in advance, Alec Whitfield from North Herefordshire UK [email protected] ---- ENG-HEREFORD Mailing List ---- ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected] with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. Alec There is a Rootsweb List that would help with this question. They are a very friendly, helpful group who love to solve this type of puzzle. It's the "Old English" list, and here's how to access it: Topic: A mailing list for deciphering and interpreting documents from the British Isles, from earliest times to about 1900. This list is Intended for genealogists, family and local historians, etc. Subscribing. Clicking on one of the shortcut links below should work, but if your browser doesn't understand them, try these manual instructions: to join OLD-ENGLISH-L, send mail to [email protected] with the single word subscribe in the message subject and body. It's a great resource for all of us who are stuck on words or phrases from wills or census transcriptions and such. Good luck.
