    3. Fiona A very small world. Samuel Banford and then his son Thomas owned two properties in Pencombe - Bank House and Bank Cottage. I own Bank cottage and I have been tracking the people who have either owned or lived in the cottage and also Bank House sometimes called The Bank in the census as there are three properties in Pencombe with Bank in them - The Bank - Bank Cottage - Bank House and all got mixed up. One reason why I created a census schedule for the whole of Pencombe village covering 1841-1901 census entries and can help anyone with Pencombe queries for this time period. In the 1890s after Thomas Banford his son died, it was bought by the Bishop family and continued to be the Post Office for the village of Pencombe until 2002. I have quite a large file on the Banfords and also the wife of Samuel Banford, Elizabeth Kinsey and her background and connections to Thomas Kinsey who was the curate at Wacton from 1768. I have put this information on the list as there might be other people interested in the information but could you reply directly to me. Please excuse me if I do not reply instantly as I have just returned to the USA after 5 months in the UK in Pencombe and I am a little behind in linking up to everything. Kindest regards Barbara Haner [email protected] No photos or paintings exist of Court farm as the original was demolished by the Arkwright family c1863 except for the medieval stone barn which has a dovecote built into the front wall and hence is a listed building and was preserved by the Arkwrights >Today's Topics: > #1 Banford connections ["Fiona Banford" ><[email protected]] >X-Message: #1 >Date: Tue, 29 Aug 2006 13:52:18 +0100 >From: "Fiona Banford" <[email protected]> >To: [email protected] >Message-ID: <[email protected]> >Subject: Banford connections >Content-Type: text/plain; > charset="iso-8859-1" > >Hi > >I'm new to the list and my main surname interest is BANFORD. > >The BANFORD's originated in Mathon then moved to Pencombe. > >Samuel BANFORD b.1788 Mathon, d.1853 Pencombe? >he was a carpenter and Wheelwright and is mentioned in the various >directories. > >His two sons Thomas BANFORD b.1819 Pencombe and John BANFORD b.1825 >Pencombe took over the wheelwrights business in Pencombe. > >The family lived at Court Farm, Pencombe and then at Bank House Pencombe. > >Apparently Court Farm was rebuilt in 1863.
