Hello good Listers, On my GGgrandmother's marriage certificate, it is almost certain that the witness is her sister, CHARLOTTE [WICKS/WICKES] WHEELER. Charlotte is the first of the five girls born to Jonathon Somerset Wicks and Margaret Trotman in Tetbury, Gloucester. 1] Charlotte Wicks chr 6 Nov 1799-1888 did she marry John WHEELER in 1828 ? 2] Ann Wicks chr 7 Nov 1800-1896 Became Mormon, married George Grove Edward TAYLOR. First husband William Black of Ireland. Her husband George committed polygamy when he married Jane Baxter in 1851. Ann & George's son JOSEPH EDWARD TAYLOR became a Patriarch of the Mormon church in Salt Lake in 1904. Many wives & children. All this family ended up in Salt Lake City. 3] Mary Wicks chr 18 Mar 1803 ***my GGgrandmother --died 1845, after fourth birth 4] Margaret Wicks chr 1804-1810 died 6 years old 5] Eliza Wicks chr 17 Dec 1806-1843 did she marry a James Hodges in London ? As interesting as Ann Wicks Taylor is, it is CHARLOTTE WHEELER I am interested in at the moment. Can anyone see where she is in any census? In 1881 census, she is living at Hardwick Cottage No. 1 in CLIFFORD, Hereford --an 80 year old annuitant widow. A lodger organist is boarding. Just two houses away from the schoolhouse, and close to the Friary. Strangely, Charlotte's sister Mary who died in 1845 had married the schoolmaster of Clifford in 1838. JOSEPH ALLBUT left Clifford in the mid 1850s. I wonder why Charlotte is still there? So between 1838 and 1881 I know nothing about Charlotte Wicks Wheeler. Can anyone fill in the blank ?? Any thoughts much appreciated. Regards, Kitty PS. The name 'Allbut' is almost always mistranscribed. Sometimes 'Allbert'.
