Polly, either you have a sixth sense or you are working at the Record Office !! Mary is indeed described as "Widow of Isaac CHADWICK", but the informant wasn't my 3x Great Grandfather, but his younger brother Richard whom she was living with at the time. I now have a situation whereby my 3xGreat Grandfather, James CHADWICK, was born the illegitimate son of Mary. At the time of his birth, Isaac was already dead and could not have been his father. The same applies to several other siblings including Richard. This means that my CHADWICK line, which is extensive, is not genetically CHADWICK at all! I haven't yet seen the baptismal register, but the IGI record gives only the mother's name. So, I may never know who gave rise to all those CHADWICKs, most of whom moved to Birmingham to lay the cobblestones on the streets.
