Hi List, Recently acquired Army records have revealed the following details for my 3*grt grandfather. John MEREDITH (alias MERREDDITH) born c.1798/1799 at Madley nr Hereford - later doc's quote 'Hadley' which I think must be an error. John enlisted with the Rifle Brigade at Gloucester in 1816 at which time he stated he was a 'Tailor' by trade. The IGI doesn't appear to cover the village of Madley for the relevant period. However, the NBI carries 3 burial entries for MEREDITHs which does at least confirm a 'Meredith' presence in the village: 1815 - James MEREDITH - aged 57 yrs 1826 - Mary MEREDITH - aged 85 yrs 1827 - James MEREDITH - aged 87 yrs Having joined the Army John served in Ireland and Canada eventually ending his days in Richmond, SRY. He did name a son James, so perhaps he was related to one or more of the James Merediths listed above. I would be interested to hear from anyone who might have connections with the Madley Merediths.
