    1. [HEF] HER--William PITT 1740's looking for descendants
    2. Ruth Ann Baker
    3. Have a will for a William PITT that was written 17 September 1742 and proved on 21 October 1742. The list of children, properties, and his occupation makes me strongly think he is an ancestor of my James PITT Sr. How do I make the connection of missing generations? Do you fit any of these families? William PITT's wife Elizabeth was living at time of his will. His descendants included: 1. a son James PITT who was married to an Elizabeth. 2. a daughter Elizabeth PITT 3. a son William PITT 4. a daughter Hannah PITT 5. grandchildren James GILBERT and Elizabeth GILBERT 6. grandchildren John ROGERS and Catherine ROGERS The William PITT who wrote will was of Longtown township, Clodock Parish, Herefordshire. Properties mentioned in the will included: a. Snodhill in Peterchurch Parish, Herefordshire b. Ewoclod Caofa in Clodock Parish, Herefordshire c. Caopiore Dior in Clodock Parish, Herefordshire d. Nyadd Bach in Clodock Parish, Herefordshire e. Lyndee William PITT was a clothworker. He gave all his tools, utensils, and implements belonging to his trade to his son William PITT. My ancestor James PITT Sr. was born about 1740. He was 93 years old when he died in 1833. The burial record of Michaelchurch Eskley, Herefordshire said his residence was Nayadd Bach, Clodock Parish. The children of James PITT Sr. were named Hannah PITT, James PITT, Charlotte PITT, Elizabeth PITT, Henry PITT, William PITT. A land agreement from about 1824 found in Longtown Deed Box for Trewern mentions both a James PITT the elder and a James PITT the younger. I have not yet been able to discover who the parents of James PITT Sr. were. An item appeared in the 1 May 1781 Hereford Journal newspaper that I think refers to James PITT Sr. and with other clues already mentioned here seems to make William PITT his ancestor back two or more generations. "Yesterday se'nnight a fire broke out at Trewern, in the parish of Clodock, in this county, which consumed...a large quantity of dressed and undressed flax...and many other things of value, the property of Mr. James PITT. The loss sustained is very considerable. The accident was owning to the flax-dresser's boy having made a fire too near the flax." The steps needed to change flax into linen cloth were quite involved I understand. There is another PITT family in the area of Michaelchurch Eskley, St. Margarets, and Clodock parishes in Herefordshire. Those related to that family have indicated they do not yet know if they tie in to the William PITT of the 1742 will. This family does have children that are of an age they could be cousins or some other relative to my James PITT Sr. Ruth Ann United States
