    1. [HEF] James PITT puzzle, part 2
    2. Ruth Ann Baker
    3. On 12 September 2006 I posted first message about James Pitt puzzle (about James PITT Sr. and his son James PITT Jr.) In searching the 1841 census, found an entry that seems to be James PITT Jr. But it raises more questions than it answers. Reference is HO 107/420/3, folio 21, page 12. The online image actually shows two pages, 11 and 12, with a number 21 later stamped in upper right corner. This is for Clodock, Herefordshire, England, District 2. Details online indicates it is for Clodock Civil Parish, Ewyas Lacey Hundred. The top of the page itself says Township of Longtown. Lines 15 and 16 show James PITT, age 65, independent means; Ann PITT, age 50; BOTH NOT born in the county. 1. Do I recall correctly that ages in 1841 were rounded down, so James could be from 65 to 69 years old? Does this fit with an age of 70 years when he died in September 1843? 2. Is place where they lived Bell Inn? 3. He was christened/baptized in 1778 in Clodock Parish; but from age on death certificate appears birthdate was 1773. Why is he shown on census as not born in the county? Three of his five siblings were also christened/baptized in Clodock. One sister was born in time period when Clodock records are incomplete. Have not found christening/baptism for his youngest brother. James and four of his siblings are named in will of his father James PITT Sr. while one sister died as a child. 4. Still looking for 1841 census for his brothers Henry (at Hay, Breconshire) and William plus married sister Hannah. Have 1841 census for his married sister Elizabeth and family at Clyro, Radnorshire, Wales (Elizabeth and family had moved to Cusop Parish, Herefordshire, England by 1851 census).
