I am trying to figure out which details fits which James PITT in the western area of HEREFORDSHIRE. (I have added Sr. and Jr. to help keep things straight!) James PITT Jr. is the son of my ancestor James PITT Sr. and Eleanor John, the second of six known children for the couple (and first son). Eleanor may have died in 1801 and was buried in Michaelchurch Eskley. James PITT Sr. married widowed Hannah JENKINS in 1089. James PITT Sr. died in 1833 and was buried in Michaelchurch Eskley. His widow Hannah died in 1845 and was buried in Clodock. James PITT Sr. was born about 1740. James PITT Jr. was christened/baptized in 1778. According to his death certificate when he died in 1843, he was 70 years old, which would make him born about 1773. Also in the area is a James PITT that married Anne Davis in 1814 in Peterchurch. I think the six children christened/baptized in Peterchurch between 1815 and 1829 belong to this couple. I do NOT think this James PITT is son of James PITT Sr. The will of James PITT Sr. was written in 1832 and proved in 1834 by his second son Henry PITT who lived in Hay, Breconshire. People and places named in this will are: his son James PITT Jr. the living MEREDITH children of his daughter Elizabeth PITT who married James MEREDITH Sr. (which is puzzling as Elizabeth died in 1875 and James MEREDITH Sr. died in 1867) his second wife Hannah PITT his step-son John GWILLIM of the Wayne (Clodock Parish) Nayaad Bach, Caiashaino, Longtown Township, Clodock Parish, Llanveynoe James PITT Jr. also had a will, which was written in 1840 and proved in 1844 by his wife Ann. He died 10 September 1843 in Longtown. I think he is the James Pitt that married Ann Watkins in 1812 in Clodock Parish. Because of way his will and that of his father is written, I think James Pitt Jr. had no living children. His will mentioned these individuals and places: his older sister Hannah THOMAS (was she now widowed?) his youngest brother William PITT his sister Elizabeth MEREDITH and six of her children by name two unnamed children of his deceased nephew William MEREDITH (he died in 1836) James MEREDITH, another of Elizabeth's children, and his heirs (this James MEREDITH Sr. lived in Glamorganshire at this time and died in 1849 in the United States while traveling up the Mississippi River) Trewern Caia Gell, Hendre, Longtown Township, Clodock Parish, Teer Iaynoe, Abergavenny (where lawyer was) Why are the MEREDITH grandchildren named in both these wills when their parents were still living?
