Hello Maureen, Are you talking about Kentchurch Church itself please or the Church situated up on the hill to the left of the A 465 trunk road, going from Abergavenny to Hereford at Pontrilas?If you continue on towards Hereford you will come to Howton by the way. If it is Kentchurch you are talking about,set amongst some beautiful trees on the B 4347 out of Pontrilas going towards Skenfrith and Garway.Then this Church is located almost at the bottom of the drive to Kentchurch Court,which has been owned by the Scudamore family for very many centuries.I would have thought they would have been the largest employer of people in that area at the time period you are researching?. Maybe the Kentchurch name has appeared with the folklore tales about Jack O' Kent and his supposed connections to Kentchurch Court.Indeed their was a recent television programme here in Wales relating to Owain Glyndwr,featuring this Court,showing the insides and interviewing one of the present family. I have read some books about this and also the extremely interesting history of this family,who have played a very important part in our countries history.
