I am looking for information on the Cooper, Clifton and Jones families who lived in Little (Middle) Bogmarsh, Holme Lacy, Hereford. My wife is descended from William Harvey Cooper born 25 May 1852, and died 29 July 1894 in Lake Co, TN. The family story goes that he was born in Wales and moved to Holme Lacy at a young age. He had a falling out with his father and at the age of about 17 years old, he stowed away on a ship to the USA. In a petition for citizenship dated 2 Nov 1877, he stated that he had resided in the US for 5 yrs, in the state of Tennessee one year before the petition and that he was a minor resident 3 years before he became of age (21). A number of years ago, my wife and I were able to travel across the big pond for a short visit. There were several places that we planned to visit. I guess that we didn't really do our homework because we arrived in Hereford during a festival (Three Choirs was in Hereford, that year) and the record office was closed. We spent a couple of nights in a delightful B&B in Dinedor and we were able to explore the area around Holme Lacy. We located and photographed the house known as Little (Middle) Bogmarsh and after visiting several churches, we located St. Cuthbert's Church and the gravesites of the Coopers. We were not able to find any of sign of the Jones family and they may have moved out of the area sometime after 1915. In a letter that Katie A Cooper Jones wrote to her brother, Wm H Cooper, in 1915, She said that her son Reggie was a carpenter, her son Will was a gameskeeper and a third was a farmer.
