Hi Leila, William's marriage is on freebmd - June 1904 Hereford 6a 1096 - which means his wife was either Mabel Caroline Arnold or Sarah Ethelda Edwards. William was living at 15 The Parade, Monthmouth as a boarder in 1901 - image sent off list. I have looked for him in a couple of trade directories on the Historical Directories site in case that threw up his wife - couldn't see him in the Herefordshire 1913 directory but there was a W.B. Hartland in the Kelly's Directory of Monmouthshire 1914 who is Secretary of Monmouth Steam Saw Mills and Living at May Hill House, Monmouth - this would fit with him being a commercial clerk (1901). To see this, go to http://www.historicaldirectories.org/hd/index.asp and search for Wales 1910s, then click on Kelly's Directory of Monmouthshire 1914 and search for Hartland. Doesn't mention his wife though. This doesn't help with your car crash but hope it's of interest! I have another question regarding another relative. How would I find information which may have appeared in a newspaper in about October 1933? The information that I have is there was a bad automobile accident and Will Hartland, his wife & daughter and my great aunt, Kitty (Katie) Garstone were in the car. The letter I have states "the car slid and overturned & Will was killed, his wife's arm was broken & badly bruised all over & is still in hospital last week and his daughter's nose broken". "Kitty got bad lacerations about the head & face". Apparently the accident happened on a hill at Callow when Will hit a pole. I wrote to the daughter, Phyllis Hartland, a few years ago but I have since found out that she died before the letter was written. I don't know the wife's name. "Will" (William Benjamin Hartland) was 8 on the 1881 census, his parents were William Edward Hartland and Harriett Preece. I know the parents lived at Little Dewchurch. Thank you for any information.
