    3. Hi Connie Yes it seems that most people give Linton, rather than Bromyard as their place of birth in the census. Who are you looking for and what date, and I will check the registers on Monday. Regards Polly ----- Original Message ----- From: "cnb46" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, April 01, 2006 4:02 AM Subject: Re: [HEF] Two Lintons in Herefordshire I have some DREWS who on most censuses state they were born in Linton, Herefordshire. Until today I assumed that was the Linton parish near Ross, since the father was born in Kempley, also near Ross. Now I wonder about the Linton township that is part of Bromyard parish. When asked for birthplace, would someone born there have said "Linton" or "Bromyard"? Should I be looking at the Bromyard PR after having no luck with the Linton near Ross PR? 3. Polly, Thanks for the offer. I realized most of the Bromyard records are already in the IGI and found no DREW there on familysearch.org....so I guess that is not the correct Linton. 3. Hi Connie As far as I am aware the only Bromyard records on the IGI are (1) patron submissions and (2) the Non Conformist Chapel there. The full parish registers are DEFINITELY not on there (and neither are any other HEF parish registers, the parishes which are there are taken from the Bishops Transcripts with very many missing years). And as Bromyard was a market town comprising of three townships the parish registers contain a LOT of entries. So again, if you let me have the details I will check on Monday when I am going to the Local History Centre teaching. It won't take me long as we have an index to the PRs. This also applies to the original enquiry about the birth in Linton - which I intended to check, but now seem to have mislaid! Kind regards Polly ----- Original Message ----- From: "cnb46" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, April 01, 2006 4:15 PM Subject: Re: [HEF] Two Lintons in Herefordshire Polly, Thanks for the offer. 1. Re: [HEF] Two Lintons in Herefordshire DREW mystery
    2. cnb46
    3. Polly and Steve, here is my DREW family from Linton (near Ross or part of Bromyard??) John DREW (b. Kempley?) married Mary JAMES in Kempley, Glos. Known children are Elizabeth, Rose (Rosanna, Rosina, Annie Rosina?), Selina (Salina?), Mary (Mary Ann?), Emily, Ernest. This information came from a cousin, descendant of Rose in England, who otherwise is not involved in family history. I am pretty sure I have found the family on most censuses through 1891, in various parts of Glos and Herefordshire, with a couple of additional children, but have had little luck with parish records. Most children say born "Linton" on census. Most do not seem to be in free BMD. Mary (Ann?) DREW, b. about 1852, emigrated to western Massachusetts and married my ggrandfather Charles NELMES in 1873 in Springfield, MA. Charles said he was from Sharpness, but I am pretty sure he was the Charles baptised in 1846 or so in Abenhall and there are many Nelmeses in the Abenhall, Mitcheldean, Shapridge area censuses. He was in Springfield by 1870/71. I have looked at the Linton near Ross parish registers on film without finding her or any of her siblings. I'd appreciate your taking a look, but will probably also go ahead and order the Bromyard films based on the info you've both given me. Connie Nelmes Beattie
