Whle going through some old photos today I came across a packet of stuff dating back to the early 20th century taken in Hereford mostly of my ancestors. One thing I came across was a photo from the Hereford Times showing the Hereford Photographic Society on a visit to Hampton Court, near Leominster in 1903 and I wondered if anybody was researching any of these people. They are listed as Mr. Gus Edwards (furrier), Mr. W. "Bogey" Williams (gunsmith), Mr. E.J. Paynter (Adams printers), Mr. W.E. Haines (chemist, High Town), Mr. Quintin Miller (dentist), Mr. W.W.W. Robinson (architect, King Street), Mr. A. Kast, Mr. Archie Slatter (grocer), Mr. Johnny Marshall (organist and music shop), Mr George Davies (draper, High Street), the Rev. Mr. McLauchlin, Mr. John H. Arkwright, Mr. Alfred Watkins and Mr. W. Roberts (baker). William Robinson and Archie Slatter are my relatives. From what I have read Alfred Watkins was quite well known in Hereford at that time for his photographic work and my cousin donated quite a bit about him to the museum. John Arkwright appears to be well known as well. If anybody would like a scan of the picture I would be happy to send it. There is also a Tariff and Souvenir of the Green Dragon Hotel, Hereford with a lot of advertising in it and there again I could scan the images. There is no date, but I would think possibly 1920's. Lastly, there is a picture of Archie Slatter with a John Parker sitting in some old stocks. Does anybody have a connection to John Parker or know where the stocks were and if they are still there? I hope this isn't too off topic. Pauline
G'day Pauline. Are you connected by any chance to Sir Thomas Robinson my grandmother was in service to the Robinson family ? Hi Pothole, Nothing so grand. Walter William Robinson was born in 1849 in Malvern, Worcestershire and married Margaret Mary Garstone in Hereford. One of their daughters, Annie, married Archie Slatter in 1902. Pauline I would be very pleased if I could get a copy of the Hereford Photographic Societies picture which includes Alfred Watkins. As well as looking after the Forest of Dean Family History Web site I also do the same for the Watkins Family History Society <http://www.watkinsfhs.net/ > and the picture would make a nice addition to our collection. There is a very interesting article on Alfred Watkins on the Hereford Web Pages.
