    2. Dear Bill, There wre some later Wathens in the Llantwit Major, Glamorgan area - wonder if they are same family? Mentioned in will as below: CHANCERY WILL OF MARY DEERE OF LLANTWIT MAJOR, WIDOW, 1742 PROBABLY WIDOW OF JOHN DEERE, GENT, WILL1736 Burial 24 Dec. 1742 Llantwit Major Something wrong here - she wrote the will November 1742 and it was proved February 1742 according to the PRO copy. Think it should read 1743 MOTHER UN-NAMED SISTERS HANNAH WATHEN [?WILL 1776] - Sole Executrix ANNE WILKINS NEPHEWS CHARLES WATHEN [?WILL 1746] THOMAS WATHEN WILLIAM WATHEN EDWARD WILKINS NIECES AT LEAST TWO, SURNAME WATHEN ONE SURNAMED WILKINS - OTHERS REV. MR. WILLIAM MILLS Vicar of Llantwit Major CATHERINE HUGHES - Servant Maid

    3. Could be some connection there. I'll investigate further. And thank you for the reply. Really concentrating on the following areas: Gloucs., Heref., and eastern Wales. The name WATHEN is not uncommon in the arenas of my searching. I'm printing out all the info coming my way and the paper file folder is filling up rapidly. Love it. My direct ancestor, John, or John B., or John Barton WATHEN came from somewhere obviously. I'm attempting to nail that down and then trace the family back from there. For me, this is has as much to do with history as with genealogy. Thank goodness for the retirement years. The immigrant John landed in Maryland in 1670 as an indentured servant to a Hugh Thomas. John sailed from Bristol that same year.
