    3. HI David: My ancestors emigrants of Scotland, Ireland, and England, though not "wealthy" according to standards of today were able to pay passage to Australia as unassisted passengers before 1830s because they were on a mission to start anew. I never saw the word "wealthy" to mean advantageous, affluent, lucrative, etc., for my ancestors or for unassisted passengers of yesteryear. I think people of yesteryear knew who were the "wealthy" ones - Vanderbilt, Rockefeller, Carnegie. And they had money equal to Bill Gates of today! I like to think people of yesteryear were "wealthy" insofaras skills, knowledge, ambition, etc., because they all came with a drive to Live. At least for my ancestors, and their descents are living proof of that desire of yesterday. Kind Regards, --Manaia ++++ --- David Daniell <ddaniell@woosh.co.nz> wrote: > Hi Steve, > Are there any published records that (effectively) > show the ratio of > assisted to unassisted immigration? > Asking because I am surprised that you say the > unassisted would have > been "wealthy". > David > Auckland ____________________________________________________________________________________ Be a better friend, newshound, and know-it-all with Yahoo!
