    2. Can any lister suggest which school in the city of Hereford my mother may have attended. She was born in 1913, and in her early years lived in Dean's Passage, Bridge Street, Hereford. I would also be grateful if anyone can advise if school records for this period are available for research. Henry Johnston

Henry, Before "bussing" it seems children went to the nearest school (excepting those who went to "faith schools"), so your mother may have attended Lord Scudamore's Council School - a public elementary school (for "boys, girls and infants" according to Kelly' Directory 1931). http://www.lordscudamore.hereford.sch.uk/ In 1831 it was in Friars Street - only a couple of streets from Bridge Street. The Roman Catholic school was even nearer in Berrington Street. Regarding records - sorry not a clue! Regards, John ex St James' Infants St Owen's Primary Hereford High School for Boys.
