Many thanks for replies re. above especially Stephen Kelsey and Polly Rubery. Have digested what you have both had to say, and am still not sure where we are. Neither Richard BULL nor Emma HODGES (certainly not Emma) were converted Mormons to my knowledge and definitely never left Much Cowarne, although Emma's Brewer relatives had long since left for America to become some of the LDS foiunding fathers. The marriage certificate reads as follows:- Marriage solemnised by licence in the Parish of Ocle Pychard 16 May 1843. Married in the Parish Curch according tot he rites and ceremonies of the (established church - deleted) United Church of England & Ireland by me JAMES ROE (officiating minister). Look forward to hearing further from Stephen, Polly or anyone who can throw further light on this. TIA JOHN RICHARDSON Tarrington >>>>NZ.
Hi John >>The marriage certificate reads as follows:- Marriage solemnised by licence in the Parish of Ocle Pychard 16 May 1843. Married in the Parish Curch according tot he rites and ceremonies of the (established church - deleted) United Church of England & Ireland by me JAMES ROE (officiating minister).<< This definitely means that it was in the parish church and perhaps the rector/vicar/curate of the day just had his own views on the *proper* title of the Church of England.....:-) But definitely no NC sect of any flavour was involved.
