Pauline, I don't often reply on List but you surely have a great opportunity in that the Hereford Record Office, which is where you can further your research, is right there in the Old Hereford Barracks where your chap would seem to have been employed, his address being just round the corner. Address - just ask your computer - Hereford Record Office. As you are in UK - pop down and say hello- can't be more than a few hours drive -and I reckon all your problems will be sorted out very quickly - a great bunch you will find there and give the a hug from me from afar.
