Dear List, This one may be aimed at the wrong list but I have a hunch that it may be a HEF problem. I am researching the GREENLY family of HEF but I have come across a document which is an Arbitration Award whereby a Charles HOPLEY, a blacksmith, of Walton in Radnorshire comes to owe 4 members of the GREENLY family in HEF the princely sum of "One Hundred pounds of good and lawful money". I see from the IGI that there were HOPLEYs at Eardisley around this time (as there were GREENLYs). Perhaps this unfortunate smith originated there. Whilst not strictly relevant to the genealogy, I would love to discover just how this debt came to pass. If anyone knows of the HOPLEY family around this time or can cast any light on this strange debt, I would love to hear from you. David Matthews
