Hi, I'm new to the list and wonder if anyone can help. I have my great-grandfather, Henry (or Harry) EDWARDS in the 1901 census giving his birthplace as what looks like Peterstow. There wasn't a county mentioned and it is possible that the 'w' is an 'n', but my best bet is on Peterstow. His age puts him born in 1872/3. On his marriage certificate he gives the name of his father as Thomas Edwards, a coachman. I have failed to find him in the 1881 census - in fact I have found only one 'Edwards' born in Peterstow - she is Agnes Edwards, step-daughter of William Higgins, living in Gloucestershire. She has a brother, Henry, age 10, and the place of birth is given as Hentland, which I believe is not too far from Peterstow. He might be a possible suspect, but the age is wrong and also what happened to his father Thomas? If anyone could shed light on this mystery I'd be very grateful!
