Dear All, I'm not sure I agree with those who say the Merricks/Meyricks are very difficult to trace! There are still a few Merricks in Herefordshire - several families in Clehonger, Madley and Hereford City who I believe are related to me. I've been lucky enough to inherit my grandfather's and uncle's researches so perhaps I've found it easier than most. These are the Merricks I know about: Walter Meyrick m Martha Walter Merricke bap 1668 Aymestrey m Mary Pye 1704 Children: John (a sergeant in Sir Robert Rich's regiment of dragoons) b 1706 Elizabeth b 1705, Artimodorus (died young), Artimona, ARISTARCHUS Merrick b 1710, bap 1711 Thruxton, m 1 Mary Hullett m 2 Elizabeth Fennell. Aristarchus had the following children that I know of: JOHN (bap 1737), Arnold (moved to Cirencester), Aristarchus, William (lived at Thruxton, m Elizabeth, children William bap 1789, Judith 1794, Arnold 1801). John Merrick married Susanna Baker at Much Dewchurch in 1763 and they both lived until the 1820s, dying at the ages of 88 and 92. Their final home was Turner's House in Kingstone. They had six children who survived infancy: John (1764), James (1765), Richard (1773), Charlotte (b1775, married the Rev James Garbett), Ann (1768, married William Parry) and ARNOLD.(1769). Arnold married Margaret Baugh, who I believe may have been the daughter of William Baugh, the Kingstone village blacksmith. They had, as far as I can determine, three children: Thomas (1795), Charlotte (1790) and ARNOLD (1804). This Arnold was my great-great grandfather and in later years was known as Arnold Garbett Meyrick. This is all the information I have at the moment, although I think my grandfather did manage to trace more of John and Susanna Merrick's descendants so I'll look those up and add them to a later e-mail. I hope this may help someone - if any of the names look familiar, do get in touch!
